When to work on kitesurf transitions

Plan a change-of-direction lesson around your current control and progression goal.

Changing direction is a separate goal

A transition connects rides in different directions. Variations differ in difficulty and equipment. When requesting a lesson, explain whether you want to stop and restart in an organised way or link the manoeuvre while maintaining continuity.

Describe your current riding

Explain how you start, maintain your course and finish in both directions. If one still depends on assistance, that difference helps guide the initial assessment. A short video can provide context if recording does not distract you or interfere with other users.

Isolate one variable

Request a specific task and feedback after each practice block. Changing posture, trajectory and speed simultaneously makes it difficult to identify improvements. The precise sequence belongs to the instructor after observing you, rather than a universal list of movements.

Assess both sides

Record which direction feels more predictable and what happens on the other. This asymmetry informs the next session. Do not judge a transition solely by avoiding a fall: preserving space, observing surroundings and completing it repeatedly matter too.
