Start with the need
If you want to learn a task you cannot yet manage, enquire about instruction. If you already meet independence requirements and want monitoring within an agreed scope, supervision may fit. The service name does not replace explaining your circumstances.
How much intervention do you expect?
Describe whether you want continuous corrections, an initial assessment or a contact during practice. These expectations require different organisation. Do not assume a supervision rate includes the attention and teaching sequence of a private lesson.
Own equipment or rental
Separate the human service from equipment. You can ask about supervision with your own gear or a package including rental, but conditions and prices are not interchangeable. Check compatibility and condition of the material you intend to use as well.
A practical way to decide
If you need instructions to complete fundamental manoeuvres, say so and request a refresher assessment. If you need monitoring, confirm its limits and resources. Choosing by the intervention required avoids buying the cheapest option and discovering it does not meet your goal.
