A trip changes the context
A downwinder follows a route in the direction of the wind. Moving away from the starting point introduces logistics and decisions different from local practice. An advertised distance alone does not establish whether the activity matches your ability.
Describe recent skills
Explain independence, experience with trips and current difficulties, including time away from practice. The operator may need to observe you before accepting participation. An intermediate label from an old experience cannot replace that assessment.
Ask about organisation
Confirm guide arrangements, communication, participants and support scope. Ask about departure, arrival and alternatives covered in the briefing. The existence of a commercial route does not guarantee it can operate in every condition.
Decide using the complete plan
Review required equipment, transport and criteria for postponing or adapting the route. If a skill is missing, enquire about a refresher first. The goal is participation following a suitable assessment, not self-declaring a checklist to secure a place.
