Kitefoil: what to share before booking your first lesson

Prepare an assessment for moving from conventional kiteboarding to a foil session.

Describe your starting point

State your board type, controlled manoeuvres and most recent riding date. Previous kite lessons do not automatically establish foil readiness. The instructor needs a concrete description to propose assessment and progression.

Specific equipment and surroundings

A foil adds submerged elements and needs an area appropriate to the setup and exercise. Depth and conditions help determine the session. Do not bring a setup purchased independently assuming it will be the equipment used for your introduction.

Ask about lesson structure

Find out what is reviewed first, which equipment is included and how goals may adapt. A booked hour does not promise foiling above the water or reaching a distance. Familiarisation and identifying prerequisite gaps can be useful outcomes.

Continuing afterwards

Request feedback on observed skills and conditions for the next practice. One successful attempt is not automatic approval to rent any foil. The transition requires assessing consistency and adapting to the available equipment.
